  • Entries for Powerball draw close at 7.30pm AEST
  • Half of all Aussie adults expected to buy ticket
  • Equal-biggest jackpot this year at $100 million

Australians have only hours left to get their hands on a ticket for Thursday’s ‘life-changing’ $100 million lottery draw.

As many as half of all Australian adults are expected to be holding a ticket for the Powerball draw when entries close at 7.30pm AEST.

The draw is the equal-biggest jackpot by any Australian lottery game this year and comes after five draws without a Division One winner.

The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said queues had formed at outlets across the country as punters rushed to grab a last-minute ticket.

Several tips have also been shared to help Australians boost their chances of taking home the eye-watering cash prize.

‘The last time we had a $100 million Powerball draw was only six weeks ago,’ Ms Hobdell said.

‘A Bankstown dad pocketed the entire jackpot prize and became Australia’s second-biggest individual lottery winner,’ she added.

‘On that occasion, the peak of sales was at 6.29pm on the day of the draw when more than 8,227 tickets were sold in a single minute.’

Ms Hobdell said the best advice for anyone wanting to take home the ‘mammoth’ payout was to get in early.

‘Our tip to players is to register any Powerball entries to a player card or online account,’ she said.

‘That is so they can be contacted immediately after the draw should they score a slice of the division one prize.

‘We also recommend players ensure their contact details are up to date as we will want to reveal the life-changing news as soon as possible.’

Lotterywest revealed the most popular winning tickets from its Division One winners in Western Australia were ‘slikpik’ ones.

Some 53 Western Australian ticket holders have taken out a Division One prize worth a combined $166 million with more than 70 per cent coming from a ‘slikpik’ ticket.

An 18 game slikpik accounted for seven Division One winners, while 12 and 50 game slikpiks created six winners each.

Those who purchase the ticket will be given a group of random numbers that is picked out for them, after they pick a draw they want to enter.

The $100million Powerball on Thursday is the equal-biggest jackpot in Australia this year.

Last year, three players took home a share of a whopping $160 million lottery draw while another family man from NSW’s Coffs Harbour took home $126million.

This year’s biggest winner so far was a man with his wife in Bankstown, south-west Sydney, with the pair scoring the $100million Powerball in June.

He told the Australian National Lottery: ‘Am I dreaming? I’m a millionaire now?’

He said he would spend the money on a new home, but planned on continue to work before retiring.
