Man, 34, is arrested for murder after baby boy was taken unresponsive to hospital as another man, is arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a child and neglect

Two men have been arrested after a baby boy was taken unresponsive to a hospital in Blackpool, where he later died. 

A 34-year-old man is being held on suspicion of murder, after a police were called to Blackpool Victoria Hospital at 7:15pm on July 27. The force said ‘very sadly, the baby boy was pronounced deceased’ a short time after they arrived.

The second man, 30, was arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a child and of child neglect. 

Both men are from Blackpool and have since been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries. 

Post-mortem tests are currently being carried out and the cause of the baby’s death is being investigated, Lancashire Police said.

 Detective Superintendent Rebecca Smith said: ‘First and foremost my thoughts remain with the baby’s loved ones at this extremely distressing time. We are continuing to work hard to establish exactly what led to his death.

‘Although we have made arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing. A Home Office post-mortem examination has taken place. The cause of the baby’s death is awaiting further investigation.

‘If you saw or heard anything which could help our investigation but have not come forward yet, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible.’
