A group of base jumpers have been filmed risking their lives after leaping from a 76-storey skyscraper.

Five people took part in the daring stunt as they jumped off the new Meriton Suites building at Surfers Paradise, in Queensland, at midnight on Wednesday.

A resident in a nearby building captured the bold moment they glided down and headed over Surfers Paradise Beach metres below.

One base jumper is seen floating in the air before disappearing around the side of the building.

Meriton Suites stretches 265m in length and has unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.

The tower, called Ocean, is set on Surfers Paradise Beach and will be home to a five-star hotel, residential apartments, and a retail precinct.

The five-star luxury resort includes suites with residential-size gourmet kitchens and separate living and dining rooms.

It is illegal to hang-glide, parachute, base-jump, abseil or climb down a building with daredevils risking heavy fines.

Daily Mail Australia contacted Meriton for comment.

In 2016, four base jumpers took off from a crane and glided 120m to the ground.

They were each fined $450 for the stunt and faced Sandgate Magistrates Court for their actions.

In 2018, social media personality ‘Shammi’ Prasad filmed a base jumper leaping from The Meriton, in Southport.

The video showed a male figure plummeting at high speed towards the ground from the 50-storey building, before their fall was broken by a parachute.
