Chelsea may not have to worry about Manchester United if they want to appoint one manager.

Jose Mourinho is keen on making a return to United following his dismissal from AS Roma last month, according to the Daily Mail.

However, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has told GiveMeSport that the Manchester club are likely to look at a different profile of manager to Mourinho if they do decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

It could be good news for Chelsea, who may be on the search for a new manager themselves soon. Journalist Simon Phillips says one of his sources believes Mauricio Pochettino could be sacked if the Blues lose against Aston Villa tonight.

Phillips has also claimed that Mourinho is interested in coming back to Chelsea. Tammy Abraham thinks he is the “perfect” manager.

Manchester United unlikely to move for Jose Mourinho

While Mourinho may be keen on a return to Old Trafford, it does not appear to be something that United are open to.

On the 61-year-old, Sheth said: “With INEOS coming in at Manchester United, I think they will probably be looking for a different kind of profile of manager. I could be wrong, but it appears that would be the case if it’s not going to be Erik ten Hag in the long-term.

“It would be a big one if Jose Mourinho were to go back to Chelsea for a third stint.”

Chelsea a more likely destination than Manchester United for Jose Mourinho

Out of Chelsea and United, we think there is more of a chance of the Portuguese coach ending up at the former.

The Red Devils are in sixth place and eight points behind fourth, so Ten Hag is probably not even close to the sack.

It is a different story for Pochettino, though, whose Chelsea side are 11th and have just lost 4-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mourinho also has a much stronger connection with Chelsea, spending more time there than he did at United. If it came down to a choice between the two, you suspect that he would choose the Blues.
