Malo Gusto was part of a Chelsea side that left it very late to win away at Crystal Palace in yesterday’s game.

Despite falling 1-0 behind at Selhurst Park, Chelsea ended up with a 3-1 victory in Monday night’s Premier League fixture.

Conor Gallagher equalised for the Blues shortly into the second-half. The in-form midfielder then made it 2-1 with his second goal of the match in the 91st minute. Enzo Fernandez added a third in a crazy stoppage time, too.

We’re now back up to 10th in the league table, only two points adrift of Newcastle United in seventh.

Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto, 20, was certainly one of the star players for the visitors at Palace.

The £100,000-a-week defender (Salary Sport) was often the best outlook down the right flank. It’s no surprise he assisted Gallagher’s first goal with a pulled back cross.

He was replaced by Alfie Gilchrist late on during Monday’s victory, but Chelsea’s head coach admits it was only with tiredness rather than an injury.

When asked if Gusto picked up an injury against Palace, Mauricio Pochettino responded via Football.London: “Malo, I think, was tired, but it’s not going to be a big problem to be ready at the weekend.”

It’s great news that Chelsea don’t have another injury to a key player in the squad.

Malo Gusto against Crystal Palace

Even when Chelsea were poor in the first-half versus Palace, Gusto still stood out for all the right reasons.

The 20-year-old full-back is quietly enjoying a remarkable debut season in English football.

It’s been a real blow to lose club captain Reece James for such large spells of the 2023/24 campaign so far, but the way Gusto’s stepped in effortlessly at right-back has been refreshing to watch.

Speaking via Sky Sports yesterday, Gary Neville highlighted and praised Gusto as the outstanding Chelsea player during their victory over Palace.

We concede a lot of the club’s recruitment in recent windows leads to big question marks against the owners, but the likes of Gusto and Cole Palmer prove the transfer strategy hasn’t been a complete disaster.

Gusto’s now up to six Chelsea assists and he’s as great going forward as he is defensively.
