A thug who was jailed after threatening to throw acid in his ex’s face continued to harass her from behind bars while getting drunk off of prison hooch he had brewed behind bars.

Ross Pippin, 33, had also threatened to stab the father of her children after he began abusing her a week into their relationship.

But even after the thug, who has a history of domestic offences, was locked up he continued to bombard his target with calls and voicemails laced with threats.

And as Pippin was brought to court to face justice for his ongoing campaign of fear, his lawyers said he had been getting into trouble from prison bosses for brewing up moonshine in his cell.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Pippin and his former partner met in early 2022, but the relationship soured within as he turned jealous and controlling.

In April 2022 he was jailed for 16 months for assaulting his stepfather. While in prison, he continued to contact her.

He was released at the end of May that year, and continued attempting to control and threaten the woman, calling her up to 200 times a day and leaving hundreds of voicemails. By August, she’d had enough and told him the relationship was over.

But one night whilst she and her children were in bed, Pippin attended, put something through her letterbox, and ran off – before calling her to scream down the phone he would slit her throat.

She hid her children in a neighbour’s garden and phoned the police. Pippin called back the next day, begging her to drop the charges and offering to leave her alone.

He was ultimately recalled to custody after being deemed too high risk to keep in the community.

From behind bars, he made increasingly violent threats, telling her he would ‘smash her face in’ and ‘rip her head off’, before threatening to stab someone in front of her children. He also said he would dance on her grave.

In a victim impact statement, the woman said Pippin’s behaviour had ‘destroyed her’, leaving her struggling with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder as she fears for the safety of herself and her children.

She told the court she was having to move house and didn’t think she would be able to get over Pippin’s abuse. She stated her belief that if she hadn’t pressed charges she would be dead.

Pippin, 33, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to harassment causing fear of violence and two offences of sending malicious communications.

The thug, who has 50 previous convictions including for violence and domestic abuse, was jailed for three years and four months. He was also given an indefinite restraining order.

Judge Robert Spragg told him: ‘You sent her numerous threatening voicemails. They were extremely frightening and threatened extreme violence.

‘You threatened her children, you threatened a male and his mother – you threatened to cripple him. You made more than 1,100 calls to her, averaging nine a day, during which you consistently threatened her and her family.

‘This was harassment on an industrial scale and must have been absolutely terrifying for her. You had brewed and consumed prison hooch throughout the period the offences occurred.

‘You threatened her and others with extreme violence. It went on and on and was utterly relentless.’

Vic Laffey, defending, said: ‘He has to accept the threats he made to this lady were appalling. He deeply regrets it and accepts his behaviour was completely inappropriate.

‘He has been sanctioned by the prison on a number of occasions for brewing his own alcohol.’
