One Premier League manager has stated today that his side are getting closer to securing a signing from Chelsea which will be confirmed at the end of this season.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe stated in his pre-match press conference that his side are getting nearer to the threshold where the obligation to sign Lewis Hall is matched and he becomes a player there permanently.

There was some uproar in the Chelsea fanbase, particularly among those with an interest in youth football, when a deal was agreed for Hall to leave the club last summer.

This is after a season where he had made significant steps to break into the starting side at Stamford Bridge in his debut season of first team football.

He made the move to boyhood side Newcastle though, where he has found appearances hard to come by even in an injury crisis.

Despite that, Howe hinted his side were close to reaching the point where they would pay the fee, believed to be close to £35m all in.

He said: “He’s getting closer with every game. While I’m not on top of that on a daily basis, I’m sure he’s very close.”

“He is near the first team. I think the broader look is that every transfer we make is so important.

“We don’t have an endless amount of money to spend and financial fair play will restrict us not just now but in the future, so every decision we make we have to try and get right. And you are never going to do that in the transfer market. There will always be mistakes.”

The left-back role has gone under much change this summer at Stamford Bridge, with Ian Maatsen currently playing his football on loan at Borussia Dortmund after Mauricio Pochettino had second thoughts on his ability to play there in the Premier League.
