Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez is absolutely terrible in the passing department.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent.

Enzo Fernandez, along with most of his teammates, is receiving plenty of criticism after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday in the League Cup final.

In particular, the 23-year-old midfielder didn’t have his best individual game in the centre of the park.

WhoScored data recorded he finished the cup final with an alarming 77% passing accuracy, which seems very low for your midfield general.

Bent laid into Chelsea star Fernandez following his weekend performance, describing him as a very poor passer of the football.

“Enzo Fernandez for the money they paid, he’s got the worst pass appreciation that I’ve ever seen,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“Even a five-yard pass or a 10-yard pass so your teammate can control it and do something with it – awful.”

Enzo Fernandez passing

First of all, it’s a myth that Fernandez is not a good passer.

The Argentine playmaker has the vision, skill and passing range to dictate any match.

However, our defence for him stops on this occasion when discussing Sunday’s cup final at Wembley Stadium.

We can concede that Fernandez was miles off his A-game versus Liverpool, especially during the extra-time period. He wasn’t there to get a grip on the game when his team needed him most, but we’re sure the youngster will learn so much from his Wembley experience.

Speaking via ESPN recently, Craig Burley accused Fernandez and midfield partner Moises Caicedo of “downing tools” during extra-time against Liverpool. That’s not something any player will like hearing!

It’s going to take some character and resilience for Chelsea’s young group to bounce back from a weekend that’s seen their reputation take a real beating.

Next, there’s big pressure on when Chelsea host Leeds United on Wednesday night in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Will Mauricio Pochettino’s side be able to react at Stamford Bridge?
