SPARTA TOWNSHIP, Pa. (TCD) — Law enforcement officials are searching for answers after a pregnant Amish woman was killed inside her home this week while other children were present.
On Monday, Feb. 26, just before 12:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police troopers were called to a home on Fish Flats Road and found 23-year-old Rebekah Byler deceased. State Police said they are investigating her death as a criminal homicide and are “aggressively investigating all available leads.”
Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
According to the Meadville Tribune, Byler’s autopsy occurred Tuesday, Feb. 27, and took over four hours. Officials, however, are not releasing her cause and manner of death except that the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Byler was reportedly pregnant when she was killed, but Crawford County Coroner Eric Coston reportedly did not confirm how far along she was into her term.
The Erie Times-News reports two toddlers were also inside the home when a relative and family friend discovered Byler deceased in the living room. The children were reportedly not injured.
No suspects have been arrested yet.
