A silent vigil in eastern Sydney today will honour the lives of Jessie Baird and Luke Davies, with the public invited by their families to join them in mourning.

It will be held in Green Park in Darlinghurst from 6.30pm and comes on the eve of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, where a Qantas float will also pay tribute.

Organisers were expecting a big turnout of mourners to remember the couple who were allegedly murdered by New South Wales police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon.

The vigil is being held with the blessing of both of their families and there will be condolence books for people to sign.

Separately, Qantas will honour the life of Davies, who was a flight attendant with the airline, by placing his name on the front of its float at the Mardi Gras parade tomorrow.

He began flying with Qantas in 2022 and the decision came after a request by his colleagues at the carrier.

NSW Police have been re-invited to march in the parade but won’t wear their uniforms.

There are also reports the Australian Football League is preparing a tribute to Davies, who was as an Aussie rules umpire and umpired 62 games, including two finals.

The AFL says that they will work with his family and also the umpiring association to organise a tribute In the weeks ahead.

Sydney couple Baird and Davies disappeared last week before their bodies were found this week in surfboard bags on a property at Bungonia, south of Sydney.

Police Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon has been charged with their alleged murders.
