Four teenagers have been arrested by police over a string of arson attacks linked to the ongoing tobacco dispute across Victoria.
Detectives from Taskforce Lunar executed warrants across three homes in Springvale, Mulgrave and Pakenham this morning.

A 15-year-old Springvale boy, 14-year-old Mulgrave boy, 16-year-old Mulgrave girl, and 16-year-old Pakenham girl will now be interviewed by police over an aggravated burglary, along with two arson attacks.

Police said a white Isuzu D-Max and a silver Ford Ranger were stolen during the aggravated burglary in Wonga Park between 10pm on Monday 19 and 7am on Tuesday, February 20.

It was later found burnt out in Bundoora.

A 20-year-old St Albans man was yesterday charged over the incident.

Police believe the other ute was involved in an attempted arson at a Mill Park restaurant on Tuesday

The front door of the restaurant was rammed, with a number of offenders seen exiting the vehicle, one reaching back in to remove a jerry can.

All offenders fled the scene, police said.

Detectives believe the same ute was used in another arson attack at a tobacconist on Sturt Street in Ballarat about 3.35am the following day.

The store was significantly damaged during the incident, with the vehicle found burnt out hours later.

Detective Inspector Graham Banks said the ages of the teens arrested were concerning.

“We’re seeing these syndicates recruit a range of people – including children – to commit incredibly serious and violent offences,” he said.

“This remains of significant concern for police, and we will do absolutely everything we can to target those involved in this offending at all levels.”

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
