Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in appointing Ruben Amorim as their next manager but the Sporting CP boss has a concern over replacing Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues and Reds might both be in the market for a new head coach this term with doubts starting to grow over Pochettino’s ongoing presence in west London. Liverpool already know that the Anfield outfit need a new tactician, too, after Jurgen Klopp confirmed his departure.

Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, giving the Merseyside squad the time to find his replacement. And Dean Jones reports that Amorim is one option on the Reds’ radar. But Amorim is also of interest to Chelsea as they weigh up firing Pochettino in his first term.

Amorim has a big concern over replacing Pochettino at Chelsea

Pochettino only took charge at Stamford Bridge last July but has so far failed to take Chelsea to the top. Frank Lampard stood in at the helm to see out the 2022/23 term and they ended the season in 12th place. Yet Pochettino’s Blues rank 11th in Premier League after 25 games.

So, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Amorim’s situation as Sporting sit second in Liga Portugal after 22 games. They are also only two points behind rivals SL Benfica at the top of the table with one match in hand. The Leoes even beat As Aguias in the Taca de Portugal on Thursday.

Sporting now hold a 2-1 advantage after the first leg of their semi-final, and are loath to see Amorim leave. The 39-year-old would cost around £10m to break from his contract running until June 2026. Sporting’s price tag for Amorim might be a problem for Chelsea due to FFP.

Amorim also has a big concern over replacing Pochettino as the manager of Chelsea. Jones adds that the Portuguese tactician may be uncomfortable with joining the Blues’ project as their lack of stability at Stamford Bridge is likely to make the Blues’ position less appealing.

Amorim would be their fifth manager under Boehly’s consortium

Amorim would be the fifth manager to stand in charge of Chelsea since Todd Boehly led his consortium in buying the Blues. They sacked Thomas Tuchel only three months after taking over the club. While Graham Potter left Chelsea just seven months into a five-year contract.

Now, Chelsea are actively looking to replace Pochettino after losing the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool, per the Daily Mail. While The Byline has also named Amorim as Chelsea’s ‘dream’ candidate to replace Pochettino, who has only won 18 of his 36 games in charge altogether.
