Jamie Carragher has answered the very difficult question of whether Jose Mourinho or Carlo Ancelotti has been the better manager throughout their careers.
Chelsea fans are fortunate to have seen both succeed in the home dugout at Stamford Bridge during the 21st century.
For context, we’re talking about two of the sport’s greatest ever managers.
Jose Mourinho, 61, has won so much silverware in the last couple of decades, succeeding in Portugal, England, Spain and Italy. His success includes two Champions League medals, one apiece with Porto and Inter Milan.
Similarly, Carlo Ancelotti has won trophies in Spain, England, France, Germany and Italy. The 64-year-old’s won the Champions League four times as a manager, twice with Real Madrid and twice with AC Milan.
Collectively, they helped Chelsea win four Premier League titles.
Jamie Carragher has made the horrible decision of which successful manager he prefers.

When choosing between Mourinho or Ancelotti, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Carlo is my mate he used to live around the corner from me. Ancelotti is on four Champions Leagues now…. For what Jose did at Porto and winning it at Inter Milan, who very rarely win the Champions League, I’m going to go with Jose.”
Jose Mourinho or Carlo Ancelotti
We’d just about agree with Carragher on this occasion, but there’s not much to split two elite managers that have got to the top in their own unique way.
Ancelotti’s currently in charge at Spanish giants Real Madrid as his side storms towards potentially another La Liga title. They’re through to this season’s Champions League quarter-finals, too.
As for Mourinho, he’s been out of work since being sacked by Serie A club Roma in January. Incidentally, The Daily Mail recently reported that Mourinho is pretty unlikely to return to west London for a third stint as Chelsea boss.
Chelsea fans can look back to some of the club’s greatest ever teams being moulded by the aforementioned duo. First, Mourinho had two different periods of success in charge of the Blues. Meanwhile, Ancelotti’s Chelsea played exhilarating football during a couple of years between 2009-11.
We’ll be lucky if Chelsea manages to bring in a manager with the calibre of either individual anytime soon.
