Chelsea star Cole Palmer has now shared what was on his mind moments before he found the net for the Blues vs Newcastle United tonight.

He told Sky Sports that he took notice of the position of the opposition goalkeeper just before he struck the ball that led to the goal that put them in the lead in the second half.

Palmer was at his brilliant best again for the Blues at Stamford Bridge tonight as they picked up a 3-2 win.

His shot was cutely deflected goalbound by Nicolas Jackson early on, before he struck his own goal from distance in the second half to put them ahead again.

A late Mykhailo Mudryk goal was enough to get them all three points, with the Ukranian perhaps proving a point to the manager that he should be in for more minutes in the coming weeks.

Palmer meanwhile was only adding to his tally of both goals and assists this season, with him sitting top of both categories for the Blues in the league.

The England international has now shared what he saw moments before he struck his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

He said: “When I received the ball in between the lines, I just thought ‘I’ve seen the ‘keeper a bit to the left,’ and normally I go for the shaper, and I’ve just seen the defenders legs open. Because I’m so close to him I just thought if I can get it through his legs, it’s gonna go towards the net, and thankfully it went in.

“Get It through his legs with a bit of power, focus on the power.”

Palmer has continued to prove that he should absolutely be the first name on the teamsheet for the coming weeks at Stamford Bridge, and this will begin as early as Sunday.
