Chelsea could sign a new left-back when the transfer window opens this summer.

Ben Chilwell has been sidelined with yet another injury, while Marc Cucurella’s future at Stamford Bridge is currently in doubt.

Brest’s Bradley Locko is one player Chelsea are said to be looking at for the position. The 21-year-old is “being closely watched” by the club, journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Substack.

According to Phillips, Chelsea think Locko could be a smart buy and potential alternative to Alphonso Davies as they scour the market for left-backs.

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor recently named Chilwell in his England team for the Euros, though it remains to be seen whether he can return from his latest injury and stay fit for the tournament.

Chelsea closely watching Bradley Locko

At this point, Chelsea have to be looking at other left-backs. They are just having too many problems there this season.

Locko is a young and inexperienced full-back, but that did not stop Malo Gusto from leaving Ligue 1 for the Premier League, where he is now thriving.

This season, Gusto has made 20 appearances and provided five assists, which is a really good return for a right-back.

If Chelsea scouts think his compatriot has similar ability and potential, then they have to snap him up.

The most important thing is the Blues sign a left-back for the 2024/25 campaign. It would be mad to go into it now without a new one after Chilwell’s latest injury setback, especially if Cucurella leaves the club.

Levi Colwill is still around, but he has always been a central defender and not a left-back. The England international could find himself playing there again next term, depending on Chilwell’s fitness and what Chelsea do in the transfer market. The smart thing to do is buy another player for the left side of defence, with Locko a candidate to come in it seems.
