Chelsea have several players out on loan abroad right now, including Ian Maatsen and Romelu Lukaku.

Maatsen joined Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window, while Lukaku linked up with AS Roma last summer.

The Blues have also loaned a few players to Premier League clubs, such as Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana.

Broja is at Fulham but has struggled there, failing to make a single start for them so far, whereas Fofana is with Burnley and currently thriving under Vincent Kompany.

The striker scored in his side’s 2-1 win against Brentford just before the international break, impressing Alan Shearer in the process, but Kompany still thinks he can get better.

Vincent Kompany thinks David Datro Fofana can improve

Fofana has been in great form since arriving at Burnley, scoring four goals in eight games for the Clarets.

However, Kompany is not getting carried away and actually thinks the 21-year-old can do even better.

“He can still get better. That’s what we want to do with him, because he scored one but he could have scored two or three,” the Burnley boss was quoted as saying by the Burnley Express after his side’s game against Brentford.

“For probably 45 minutes he gave us what we needed defensively but the other 45 minutes he could have done more. But I think we’re going to back our players, we’re going to support them and make sure they make that progress.”

David Datro Fofana’s transfer fee

Chelsea signed Fofana from Molde for around £10m. A small investment that could end up being a real bargain if the Ivorian can maintain his form.

And if he does, maybe Mauricio Pochettino will even consider keeping him in the first-team squad next season.

The Argentine has Nicolas Jackson, while Chelsea appear to be looking at other strikers. It has been claimed that the club are interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and are prioritising them over Sporting Lisbon talisman Viktor Gyokeres.

If they cannot sign either player or any of their other forward targets for whatever reason, though, then perhaps Fofana could become a viable option for them. It just depends on how he finishes this season.

The Ivory Coast international is quite good at taking on defenders. As per FBref, he has ranked in the 95th percentile for successful take-ons among forwards over the last year so could be an exciting player to have on the pitch at Stamford Bridge should he remain in west London this summer.
