There was very little to shout about from a Chelsea perspective during Saturday’s very disappointing result in the Premier League at home to Burnley.
Despite relegation-threatened Burnley playing the entire second-half with 10 men at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could only manage a 2-2 draw with them at the weekend. In fact, the Blues could have even lost in the final stages.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side remain 11th in the Premier League table and with so much work to do to finish in the European positions.
Next, the Blues host rivals Manchester United this Thursday night in the league. Speaking via Sportskeeda yesterday, Paul Merson has predicted the score for Chelsea versus Man United at Stamford Bridge.
One Chelsea positive
Yes, you guessed it.
Cole Palmer was yet again Chelsea’s big positive sign on another frustrating weekend this year.
The 21-year-old attacker scored both goals against Burnley, his first a cheeky panenka penalty kick. Speaking via the Sky Sports News channel (4:40pm, 30 March), Sky pundit Kris Boyd called Palmer the “class act” on the field against Burnley.
It’s now 16 goals and 12 assists in 35 Chelsea appearances during this stunning debut campaign in west London.
MORE CHELSEA STORIES
Chelsea did lose to upcoming opponents Man United by a 2-1 scoreline in the reverse league fixture earlier this season, but it’s no surprise that Palmer was on the scoresheet that day. Blues supporters will be praying he keeps up this form in Thursday’s match, which is insane pressure for someone so young.
He’s scored or assisted in each of his last four club appearances across all competitions.
- Chelsea 2-2 Burnley (PL) – Cole Palmer goal X2
- Chelsea 4-2 Leicester City (FA Cup) – Cole Palmer goal + assist
- Chelsea 3-2 Newcastle United (PL) – Cole Palmer goal + assist
- Brentford 2-2 Chelsea (PL) – Cole Palmer assist
Alan Shearer hails Chelsea man
Alan Shearer has paid tribute to Chelsea and England star Palmer by naming him in his Premier League Team of the Week
He’s seriously impressed by what he’s just seen from the Blues talisman.
Shearer said via the Premier League’s official website: “Cole Palmer (Chelsea). Proving to be a big player for Chelsea this season. Scored another two goals including a panenka penalty.”
