With Chelsea in the bottom half of the Premier League table right now, Mauricio Pochettino’s job looks far from secure.
Chelsea dropped more points yesterday, drawing 2-2 with Brentford, but even before that they were being linked with Ruben Amorim. It has been reported that the Blues have a long-standing interest in the Sporting Lisbon manager.
If they want to replace Mauricio Pochettino with Amorim, though, then they are going to have to spend a lot of money. According to Fabrizio Romano, who has spoken about the 39-year-old in his Substack column, he has a €30m (£25.7m) release clause in his contract.
“From what I understand, he has a release clause in his contract worth €30m,” the transfer expert stated.
It would be a lot of money to spend on a manager, but splashing the cash has not been a problem for Chelsea’s new owners.
Ruben Amorim’s release clause
If Chelsea are desperate to bring Amorim in to succeed Pochettino, then they certainly have a chance because of the release clause in his contract.
However, Pochettino still has time to win Chelsea fans over and get rid of any doubts the club’s owners are starting to have.

The Blues will reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup if they manage to beat Leicester City later this month. They take on the Championship leaders at Stamford Bridge.
While Chelsea are in 11th place, they are only six points behind West Ham United in seventh. It is not impossible they qualify for Europe through the league or by winning the FA Cup.
Looking at their last few performances, you would not back them to accomplish the above. But if Pochettino is to keep his job, he really needs to give his superiors something, who surely cannot be convinced by what they are seeing from the team under the Argentine right now.
