A man has been charged with manslaughter in southern Queensland after investigators discovered a man initially believed to be killed in a car crash, had been shot.

A 21-year-old Nanango man was found trapped and unconscious in his car at Booie, near Kingaroy, on March 21.

He was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital, where he later died.

Initial investigations suggested he had died after the car struck a fence pole, causing critical injuries.

Now, however, police say additional information indicates he died from a gunshot wound.

It’s alleged he arrived at a property in a 2005 Hyundai Sonata at about 11.30 pm on the night.

A second man, believed to have been a passenger, is thought to have fled the vehicle before police and emergency services arrived.

A 38-year-old Kingaroy man has now been charged with manslaughter and insecure storage of weapons.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear in court today.

Investigations are continuing.
