A 14-year-old boy has been charged after a 37-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and left needing to be hospitalised with serious injuries while he was out walking south-west of Brisbane.

Police said the teenager allegedly punched and kicked the man along Springfield Lakes Boulevard at Springfield Lakes in Ipswich about 3.30am on March 27.

The man, who is believed to have been walking between a park and tennis courts before the alleged attack, was found with significant injuries to his face, head and upper torso.

He was rushed to hospital, where he remains today in serious condition.

Both the victim and the alleged offender are local to Springfield Lakes, police said.

Following an appeal for public assistance, the 14-year-old boy has today been charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, personal violence, and deprivation of liberty.

He will face Ipswich Childrens Court today as investigations remain ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage from the area between 11pm on March 26 to 6am on March 27 to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
