Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised one of his players ahead of the Blues’ match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, so Mauricio Pochettino was holding his pre-match press conference.

The Argentine desperately needs a win against his former side.

Chelsea are five points behind Newcastle United, who occupy the final European spot.

Going into this season, their aim would have been Champions League qualification, so even if they can pip Newcastle to seventh, this will not go down as a good campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino praises Chelsea player ahead of Tottenham game

Pochettino spoke about some of his injured players ahead of Chelsea’s London derby versus Tottenham.

Like it has been all season, there are a lot, including Thiago Silva.

Silva is set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires, and Pochettino has lauded the Brazilian and says he should be proud of his career.

In his presser, the 52-year-old said: “He’s an amazing guy and an amazing professional. He’s had an amazing career and the club is going to miss him. He can be proud of his career and I wish him the best.”

Thiago Silva should be proud of his career

Silva can be pleased with what he has accomplished during his time as a footballer, especially at Chelsea.

He came to England as a 35-year-old and has since gone on to make over 150 appearances.

And then, of course, he played a part in Chelsea winning the Champions League back in 2021.

It is a shame that the central defender’s £110,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) will not be renewed. Having played 34 games this season, he still clearly has something to offer. Unfortunately, though, it does not look like everyone at Chelsea can see that, otherwise he would have been offered a new deal.
