It has been claimed that the feeling within Pochettino’s camp is that the Argentine wants to continue as Blues boss.

However, having failed to qualify for the Champions League and with his contract expiring next year, Pochettino’s future is in doubt.

In fact, reports suggest that Chelsea have already identified potential replacements for the 52-year-old, including one surprise name.

You can argue that Pochettino has underperformed with this Chelsea squad.

There is a lot of talent in it and the aim heading into the campaign was Champions League qualification.

However, the number of injuries Chelsea have had cannot be overlooked. As well as that, this was a team that spent most of the season in mid-table.

They are now one point away from qualifying for the Europa League. Simply put, Pochettino has turned things around and probably deserves more time in charge.

Chelsea should not appoint Kieran McKenna if Mauricio Pochettino leaves

Chelsea seem to have contingency plans in place in the event that the club and Pochettino part ways in the summer.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is said to be one name that the Blues are currently considering as a potential replacement for the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss.

McKenna has obviously done an exceptional job at Ipswich this season, guiding them to promotion.

However, hiring the 38-year-old would be a huge risk, one very similar to the appointment of Graham Potter.

While McKenna has spent time at Manchester United, like Potter, he does not have experience managing a big club.

The Northern Irishman has not been in the managerial game for too long either. From what he has shown so far, it looks like McKenna could become a top manager one day. As for now, though, it is way too early for him to take over a club like Chelsea.
