Chelsea are about to appoint Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

Enzo Maresca has already agreed a five-year contract with Chelsea ahead of his switch to Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The above comes after Mauricio Pochettino and the club decided to part ways last week.

It has given Maresca a great opportunity at a huge team.

However, one pundit has concerns about what his relationship could be like with Todd Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea board.

Steve Nicol worried about what Chelsea board could do to Enzo Maresca

For Steve Nicol, it is quite easy to understand why Maresca is getting the job.

The Liverpool legend feels that the Italian will be someone who will be easy to manipulate and that that is exactly what the Chelsea board want.

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol said: “They’re looking for somebody who they can manipulate, so that’s what this looks like. Absolutely looks like a guy who… if Vincent Kompany can get the Bayern Munich job, then there’s no reason why this guy can’t get the Chelsea job.

“I’m not saying a yes-man, I’m saying exactly what I meant. He can be manipulated by the people above.”

Enzo Maresca’s primary task at Chelsea

There were clearly some disagreements between Pochettino and Chelsea, otherwise the Argentine would not have left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent.

The club will now be hoping it is not the same with Maresca. As head coach, they will simply want the 44-year-old to concentrate on the first team, while the likes of Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley focus on recruitment and other areas of the club.

If Maresca is OK with that, then there should not be any problems behind the scenes at Chelsea.

That does not necessarily make the Leicester boss a yes-man. It just means he is coming to Chelsea to do the job he has been given, managing the team. Perhaps Pochettino wanted more than that, hence why he is no longer at the club.
