A man has been arrested in Brisbane and charged with committing 67 alleged domestic violence offences after he was deported to Australia from the Philippines.

The 55-year-old man was detained by police in the Philippines on local charges then deported to Australia on May 9 over a series of alleged incidents on the Gold Coast in 2016 and 2017.

Police will allege the man’s criminal charges span events over several years involving multiple victims.

His charges include “numerous counts of contravening Domestic Violence Orders, using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, unlawful stalking, and breaches of bail,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Police said his arrest marked the culmination of planning between Australian and international police forces.

In footage of the man’s arrest in Brisbane Airport, Queensland Police officers were heard telling the man: “We’ve currently got some warrants for your arrest because you didn’t appear before court.

“So right now you’re under arrest for your warrants.”

The man was then led to a police van outside the airport, along with his luggage trolley.

“His arrest brings a significant level of safety and reassurance to the victims involved,” Detective Inspector Paul Fletcher said.

“Our focus now is ensuring he faces the full extent of the law, and that justice is served.

“All officers’ dedication and hard work have ensured that a dangerous person can no longer cause harm to his victims, and we will continue to work diligently to uphold the safety and security of our community,” he said.

“We want to remind the community that we are here to help and protect those affected by domestic violence.”

The man was refused police bail and will face Brisbane Magistrate’s court on June 10.
