Two people will face court today charged in connection to the alleged theft of thousands of dollars worth of copper from an Illawarra mine in New South Wales.

Police will allege two drums of copper wiring were taken from a mine site on the Princes Highway, Russell Vale, at about 4pm on Sunday.

At about 1.30pm on Monday, police attended a unit in Carters Lane, Towradgi.

Officers searched the property and seized a large quantity of copper wiring, including a drum with an estimated value of $10,000.

A 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested.

The man was charged with aggravated in dwelling in company steal, and break out.

The woman was charged with having suspected stolen goods on the premises, and breaching bail.

They were refused bail and will appear in court today.
