Tosin Adarabioyo has explained that there’s two former Chelsea defenders he tries to play like on a football pitch.

Chelsea confirmed on Friday morning that Tosin Adarabioyo is their first summer signing.

Tosin has signed a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge, which will officially begin on 1 July.

The 26-year-old defender has been snapped up on a free transfer because his Fulham contract expires this summer.

Chelsea’s owners have splashed the cash in recent times on marquee signings, but this latest bit of business could be a really shrewd addition to the squad.

Chelsea confirm Tosin Adarabioyo will sign for the club from July 1, 2024 at Chelsea Training Ground on June 7, 2024 in Cobham, England.

Tosin Aderabioyo takes inspiration from two former Chelsea players

For any Chelsea fans that didn’t watch Tosin play at Fulham, he’s a towering 6ft 5in centre-back who possesses ball-playing qualities and physical strength.

It’s very interesting to hear Chelsea’s new signing claim that he tries two mirror certain aspects of former Blues defenders John Terry and Andreas Christensen.

When asked to compare himself to previous players, Tosin said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “I’d say I take aspects of their game into mine, like John Terry’s leadership, how aggressive he is. And Christensen for example, how well he can play on the ball. So players like that I like to take bits from.”

Fixing the Chelsea defence should be a priority for Enzo Maresca

While Chelsea’s attack scored freely last season under Mauricio Pochettino, the defence was leaking goals at an alarming rate. The Blues conceded 63 goals in total in the Premier League season.

If Maresca is to succeed at Stamford Bridge, he needs to tighten up the backline quickly.

Tosin is an interesting new option for the Chelsea defence. He defends the box aggressively, plus he’s a comfortable passer with good vision. But can he do it in a in a more high pressured environment?

The pre-season will be huge for him, like the rest of his teammates, as he tries to impress the head coach.
