Chelsea have ‘broadly agreed’ a deal to sign an attacker from their Premier League rivals this summer.

That is according to fresh transfer speculation in the media on Friday afternoon.

Chelsea have already acted quickly this summer by signing 26-year-old defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.

The Chelsea Chronicle thinks more experience and know-how at the top level is exactly what the young squad at Stamford Bridge needs injected into it.

While the Blues may be linked with a Premier League player, he’s not one with the longest of CVs.

Chelsea take positive step towards £40m signing

The Telegraph claims that Chelsea have now ‘broadly agreed’ a deal worth up to £40m to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

Is understood that there’s still hurdles to overcome before the transfer is completed, though.

The report explains that Chelsea now have permission to discuss personal terms with the 20-year-old Villa striker.

Apparently, the Blues are discussing terms while also carrying out background checks on the young centre-forward.

Chelsea would prefer to put Duran on a long, incentivised contract, rather than giving him big wages from day one.

Would Jhon Duran be worth it?

Unfortunately, we predict a fairly big backlash from Chelsea supporters if the club goes through with the £40m signing of Duran.

Yes, Villa’s youngster is an exciting prospect with big potential. Whenever he’s got on the pitch in the Premier League, he’s looked strong, quick and clinical in the final third.

He scored eight goals in 37 first-team matches last season for Villa, which is a fair return considering he was the second striker in support of Ollie Watkins.

There’s definitely potential that Duran could develop into a good signing, but £40m on another talent yet to prove himself will surely anger the fanbase at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea need a proven forward added to their squad rather than another expensive gamble.
