Police have been called to a street close to the UK’s GCHQ spy centre after reports of homes and vehicles being ‘shot at’.

Officers flooded the St Paul’s area of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, shortly after 7.20pm on Wednesday night, having been informed that the occupants of a vehicle had shot at addresses and parked vehicles on Hudson Street.

Gloucestershire Police say they will maintain a heavy police presence in the area while enquiries take place to establish the identity of those responsible.

No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made at this time.

The force is keen to speak to residents in the area who may have may have CCTV or doorbell footage or witnessed suspicious activity.

Cheltenham, which has a population of 18,900, is best known for hosting the annual Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival every March, which sees as many as 70,000 racing fans descend on the town for the four-day event. 

The town also houses the government’s top-secret intelligence, security and cyber agency GCHQ in the Benhall area of the town.  

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said: ‘We were called to Hudson Street shortly after 7.20pm with a report that the occupants of a vehicle had shot at addresses and parked vehicles.

‘No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made at this time.

‘There is a large police presence in the area while enquiries take place to establish the identity of those responsible.

‘Officers are keen to hear from anyone who lives in the area and may have CCTV or doorbell footage or witnessed suspicious activity.

‘Anyone with information on what took place can provide this by completing the following online form and quoting incident 429 of 19 June.’
