A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing two male security guards, and injuring a third, at Sydney’s Westmead hospital.

Police were called to the hospital, in the city’s west, at about 11.30pm on Friday following reports a 39-year-old man had assaulted three guards, aged 24, 25 and 31. 

The 24-year-old suffered stab wounds to his wrist, while the 25-year-old had lacerations to his neck.

The 31-year-old security guard suffered a dislocated shoulder while a 29-year-old male hospital staff member also sustained minor injuries.

All four are understood to be recovering and in stable conditions.

The alleged knifeman is understood to have been a patient at the hospital and was under police guard before being taken to Parramatta Police Station.

He was on Saturday afternoon charged with five offences including two counts of assault frontline health worker – actual bodily harm, assault frontline health worker – no actual bodily harm, common assault and use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

The 39-year-old was refused bail and is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
