Chelsea are now having to consider other wide options after ending their interest in Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

The Blues pulled out of the race for Michael Olise because of finances, The Athletic reported on Friday.

It could now see them turn their full attention to another young winger, though signing him does not look like it will be easy either.

Chelsea have at least been able to strengthen their defence by signing Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham on a free transfer.

However, many Chelsea supporters will be disappointed to hear that Olise will not be joining their club this summer. The 22-year-old has proven to be such an exciting attacker in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 19 appearances last season.

Chelsea enquiring about another winger

Chelsea do not look to be wasting any time after pulling out of the race to sign Olise.

They still appear to be keen on bringing in a new wide man, though they could now sign a left winger instead of a right winger.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are trying to find out more about Nico Williams‘ release clause, though it is not a deal that he can see happening.

Discussing the 21-year-old Spain star on Substack, he wrote: “I understand that Chelsea have asked for conditions on his release clause just over the weekend.

“I personally see this as having 2% chance of happening (my opinion not info) due to once again, the overall financials that it would cost. Never say never though.”

Nico Williams signing could make more sense than Michael Olise

Again, while Chelsea fans will be frustrated with what has happened with Olise, it may not be the end of the world if Enzo Maresca ends up with Williams instead.

All things considered, Chelsea probably need a new left winger more than a right winger.

On the right, they have Cole Palmer who can play there. The 22-year-old was obviously excellent under Mauricio Pochettino last season, coming up with 40 goal contributions in 45 appearances. Noni Madueke is also able to cover him.

On the opposite flank, though, Chelsea were nowhere near as strong, with neither Raheem Sterling nor Mykhailo Mudryk getting anywhere close to Palmer’s numbers.

If anything, then, Chelsea should be trying to upgrade their left flank, though signing a new right winger would allow Palmer to move to a more central role, where he could perhaps do even more damage.
