Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Chelsea’s transfer battle for one of their recent signings.

Since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea have been extremely busy in the transfer market.

This summer, the Blues have already signed Estevao Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo. However, the former will not be able to officially join the club until he turns 18 next year.

Last summer, Chelsea were also very active in the market.

They brought in the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, with the Ecuadorian going on to become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Chelsea could have missed out on recent signing

Chelsea are building a team for the future. The addition of Estevao is further proof of that.

They could have missed out on the winger, though, with Romano claiming that one club attempted a hijack just before he signed for the Blues.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, the transfer expert said: “We can consider Estevao a new Chelsea player, and it’s a generational talent joining the Blues – I can reveal that he was also wanted by others, with one club trying to hijack the move in recent days.”

Romano also claimed that the total package for Estevao could see Palmeiras pocket €58m (£49m).

Estevao Willian and Chelsea’s other young Brazilians

Of course, Estevao is not the only Brazilian youngster Chelsea have snapped up recently.

Last year, they signed Deivid Washington and Angelo Gabriel from Santos.

Before those two arrived at the club, the Blues brought in Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama.

It is clear to see, then, that Chelsea are really focusing on the Brazilian market. It is a bit of a gamble, though.

These are very young footballers currently playing outside of Europe. It is hard to tell if they are all going to develop into players capable of thriving in the Premier League. Being so young, it may be a while before they get a chance to show what they can do in England.
