A woman has been charged after a crash which killed a man in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to the Stuart Highway in Kootaberra after reports a Volkswagen Tiguan had crashed into a tree.

The rear passenger of the VW, a 63-year-old man from Victoria, died at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year woman, was arrested following investigations.

She was been charged with cause death by dangerous driving and cause serious harm by dangerous driving and cause harm by dangerous driving.

She has been refused bail to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today.

The Stuart Highway was closed for several hours and reopened at 2.30am.

The man’s death is the 42nd life lost on the states roads this year.
