Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing a £70m-rated player this summer, but any kind of transfer is unlikely to happen imminently.

We’ve seen Chelsea really splash the cash in the 21st century. In particular, the new owners have decided to dig deep into their pockets since their takeover two years ago.

Now, the Blues are being linked with a young centre-back with a big price tag on his head.

Chelsea are unlikely to sign Murillo soon

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have registered their interest in signing Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.

It is explained that the 21-year-old Brazilian youngster has emerged as a target for new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

The report explains that the Blues have made contact about Murillo’s availability because they view him as someone with huge potential and a good fit for them. However, Forest value the central defender at around £70m.

The Telegraph’s report adds that any deal for Murillo is unlikely to happen imminently.

This comes after UOL claimed this week that Chelsea could offer cash plus a couple of players for Murillo.

Nottingham Forest defender is an obvious talent, but do Chelsea need him?

It’s claimed above that Chelsea think Murillo would suit them. Based on what the youngster has done in the Premier League so far, we could definitely agree with that idea.

He’s played just the one season in English football so far, but he looked really comfortable last year as a key player for a Forest team that avoided relegation.

Speaking via BBC Sport back in January, Garth Crooks described Murillo as “quite superb” after one Premier League display.

Despite his quality as a powerful left-footed centre-back, targeting him for a big-money signing is definitely questionable. It could be a blessing in disguise that a transfer isn’t imminent.

There’s already an array of talented centre-halves at Chelsea for Maresca to work with.
