Chelsea have now initiated contact with a transfer target just hours after the cash windfall from selling Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa.

The Blues confirmed via their official website on Friday that they’ve sold Maatsen, 22, to Premier League rivals Villa.

The left-back has completed a permanent transfer to Villa Park, where he’ll play Champions League football next season.

Many Chelsea fans may have wanted Maatsen back in their first-team squad next year after a very productive short-term loan spell with Borussia Dortmund last campaign. He actually ended up playing in a Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

However, Chelsea do already have Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella as senior left-back options.

Chelsea have been in touch again for Alexander Isak

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is someone who’s been recently linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that Chelsea made an enquiry for Newcastle’s Isak. Apparently, he could cost even more than the £115m the Blues paid for Moises Caicedo.

Now, there’s been fresh rumours about the Magpies centre-forward.

ChronicleLive claimed on Friday night that Newcastle have now received a fresh enquiry for Isak from Chelsea.

It is explained that the new Blues contact comes just hours after selling Maatsen to Villa for £35m and receiving a cash boost.

The report states that Chelsea would have to come up with something ‘sensational’ to convince Newcastle to sell Isak.

As it stands, there’s no suggestion that the 24-year-old will leave St James’ Park despite another approach from the Blues.

25-goal striker would be incredible signing

The Chelsea Chronicle would love to see Isak join the Blues this summer. Unfortunately, it sounds unlikely to happen.

Isak is without doubt a top-quality striker, scoring 25 goals in 40 matches across all competitions last season for Newcastle.

The Sweden international is the type of No 9 that could start and succeed at any club in Europe.

Described as a player who can achieve “incredible things” by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe (Beanyman Sports), Isak has a massive future ahead of him.
