Police in Western Sydney are searching for a driver over an alleged hit-and-run-death overnight.

Events began when emergency services were called Abell Road, Melonba, a suburb of Blacktown, at about 11.45pm over reports an injured man was on the roadside.

Paramedics treated the man, believed to be aged in his late 70s, but he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Police set up a crime scene and launched investigations.

Early inquiries indicate the man was hit by a black sedan travelling eastbound on Abell Road.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information, dashcam footage from the area, or who witnessed the incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
