Shelley Duvall, the Hollywood actress known for her roles in films like The Shining, Annie Hall, and Nashville, has died at the age of 75.

Duvall’s husband, Dan Gilroy, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. 

According to Gilroy, Duvall died peacefully in her sleep from complications related to diabetes. 

In a heartfelt statement, Gilroy described her as a “dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend” who endured much suffering recently.

Shelley Duvall gained fame in the 1970s through a series of landmark films, notably collaborating on seven movies with director Robert Altman, who discovered her while she was in college in Houston, Texas. 

She made her debut as a teenage tour guide in Brewster McCloud, followed by her role as a mail-order bride in McCabe & Mrs. Miller in 1971.

Duvall rose to prominence for her portrayal of Wendy Torrance, the distressed wife in Stanley Kubrick’s psychological horror masterpiece The Shining

Her performance alongside Jack Nicholson remains a benchmark for depicting terror and resilience in the face of domestic abuse.

Throughout her career, Duvall continued to impress audiences with her performances in films like Popeye (1980), Brewster’s Millions (1985), and Taxi Driver (1976). 

Despite her early success, Duvall fell out of favor in Hollywood and was absent from screens for two decades before making her comeback in the 2023 film The Forest Hills.
