Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast of the upcoming live-action Spider-Man noir series starring Nicolas Cage.
According to Variety, Gleeson is set to play the main villain in the Prime Video series.
No further details have been divulged regarding his character.
This is one of Gleeson’s first projects since his Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin.
The series will star Nicolas Cage as an ageing private investigator and superhero with Lamorne Morris also joining the cast as Robbie Robertson, a tough investigative journalist.
According to the official description the show “tells the story of an ageing and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”
The series, now titled Spider-Noir, was officially ordered in May with Cage in the main role.
It will premiere domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and then be available globally on Amazon Prime Video.
Brendan Gleeson has starred in several acclaimed TV shows recently, including the crime drama Mr. Mercedes, based on Stephen King’s Bill Hodges novels, and Showtime’s miniseries The Comey Rule, where he portrayed President Donald Trump.
He won an Emmy in 2009 for his role as Winston Churchill in Into the Storm.
In the film world, besides The Banshees of Inisherin, Gleeson is also known for roles in In Bruges, The Guard, Calvary, the Harry Potter movies, Braveheart, and Gangs of New York.
The release date for the Spider-Noir series has not yet been announced.
