Chelsea fans may have been tuning into Euro 2024 this summer to watch how their players do, but the club are linked in the transfer rumour mill with several other individuals at the tournament.

Blues stars Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher (England), along with Marc Cucurella (Spain), have made it to Sunday’s final.

Interestingly, Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing one of Cucurella’s international teammates.

The Mirror recently claimed that Chelsea have shown ‘concrete interest’ in signing RB Leipzig and Spain star Dani Olmo. Apparently, he’s got a release clause worth £50m.

Olmo, 26, is a talented attacking midfielder who’s played a big role in helping his country reach the final of Euro 2024.

Paul Merson is blown away by Dani Olmo

Paul Merson has paid tribute to the quality of Leipzig playmaker Olmo.

In particular, he thinks the Spain international is having a fabulous summer at the Euros.

He wasn’t in the Spanish XI at the beginning of the tournament, but he’s grown into a really key figure by scoring in each of the semi-finals, quarter-finals and last-16.

When discussing Olmo’s goal against France in the Euros semi-final, Merson told Sportskeeda: “The touch to set himself up and the finish were both out of the top drawer, I’m glad it didn’t go down as an own goal as Olmo deserves to be credited for his moment of brilliance.

“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant in the knockouts and he wasn’t even playing at the start of the tournament.

“Amazing footballer – you look around and think he would start for most good teams across the continent.”

Should Chelsea push to sign the Spain ace?

There’s no doubting that Olmo is a fantastic talent now reaching the peak of his powers as a matures.

On top of this impact with Spain, he’s been a consistent performer for years in German football.

The versatile attacker has scored 29 goals and made 34 assists in 148 Leipzig appearances.

It’s no great surprise that many Chelsea fans have called for the club to sign Olmo fresh off these impressive performances at Euro 2024.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle wouldn’t say Olmo is a must buy.

Of course, he’d be a useful addition with his obvious quality. But another creator isn’t really what the squad needs when you assess it.
