Eternals and Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Kumail Nanjiani has apparently been cast as the highly anticipated live-action Booster Gold in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
As per Nexus Point News, who reported the casting just hours before the time of writing, Nanjiani has already ‘landed the role’ and is set to star in the DC Studios series.
Nanjiani is best known for his comedic work but has branched out into a blended combination of humour spliced with action, on top of getting into superhero shape physically.
Although his superhero movie debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn’t as well received as everyone hoped, his performance was still considered enjoyable.
If anyone can bring Booster Gold to life, it’s safe to say that a muscular Nanjiani would have what it takes as he seems to have a decent mix of confidence and humour in his roles.
As per the same aforementioned report, industry tipster DanielRPK claimed that Booster Gold had been cast back in February of this year.
However, no official casting announcement has been made as of writing.
In addition to the casting report, DC fans had already begun speculating that Nanjiani had teased his involvement when sharing a Superman post made by James Gunn, captioned: “In.”
“Damn buddy told us he was in it lol straight up,” one wrote.
Another added: “So you pretty much told us you had a role.”
Nanjiani cleared the air when replying to his post, stating that he “meant ‘in’ as in ‘I am IN to watch this movie,’ not ‘I am IN this movie.’”
“I am NOT in Superman. But I am very excited to watch it,” he concluded.
However, fans were left speculating further since he failed to debunk any theories that his cryptic “In.” post was in fact a reference to him being cast as somebody in the DC Universe.
Director Scott Derrickson, who is known for directing movies such as The Black Phone and Doctor Strange, went on to cryptically respond to Nanjiani with, “Tell me more.”
Could the director be teasing he may also be joining Gunn’s DCU to direct and/or produce an upcoming project, potentially Booster Gold with Nanjiani as the lead star?
