Chelsea have representatives in each corner of Sunday’s Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.

Blues left-back Marc Cucurella has been a main starter for a Spain team that’s got a 100 per cent win record en route to the final.

Speaking via BBC One after Spain beat France in the semi-finals, Micah Richards even said “outstanding” defender Cucurella is key in his role for the national side.

As for finalists England, their squad includes Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher, both of whom were used as substitutes in the semi-final win against the Netherlands.

Palmer still hasn’t started a match for the Three Lions at this tournament. The attacking playmaker is regularly making positive impacts off the bench, though.

Marc Cucurella happy if Cole Palmer is on the bench

Spain’s Cucurella has admitted that it’s good news for his side if Palmer is on the England bench this weekend.

Gareth Southgate hasn’t started the Chelsea attacker yet in the Euros, so we’d be surprised if he comes into the XI for the final. He’s been a substitute in every knockout tie so far, though.

When quizzed if he’s spoken to club teammate Palmer about the upcoming Euro 2024 final, Cucurella told Mundo Deportivo:

“Yes, we talked, but it was already a week ago. We talked for a while in the previous rounds.

“For me it’s much better that he doesn’t play and that he’s there on the bench.”

Cucurella could have a busy time defending against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. The last thing he’ll need is a fresh Palmer running at him in the second-half.

Unleash the Chelsea star

The Chelsea Chronicle expects to see Palmer on the bench again versus Spain, but it feels inevitable that he’ll do something threatening when he gets on the pitch.

Our message to Southgate is to not leave the substitution too late.

But in fairness, the England boss is sticking to his guns despite the outside noise, and is through to another tournament final.
