Spain midfielder Rodri has huge belief in England and Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Rodri and Cole Palmer were once teammates at Manchester City, but they have been on opposing sides since last season after the latter’s move to Chelsea.

They were also on different teams when Spain took on England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday night.

Rodri and Spain came out as victors after winning 2-1, but Palmer was still able to make an impact after grabbing the Three Lions’ sole goal.

His brilliant strike would not have come as a surprise to one of his Chelsea teammates. Before the game, Marc Cucurella stated that he did not want Palmer to start, fearing what the 22-year-old could do to his country.

Rodri on Cole Palmer

Palmer had an incredible 2023/24 campaign following his move from City to Chelsea.

In 45 appearances, the attacker scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists.

He is now making an impact on the international stage, and Rodri is backing him to become a “top player” in the near future.

Speaking on ITV after the game, the City star said: “I know this guy; he is a huge talent. He is going to be a top player in the next years.”

Will Cole Palmer go on to become a top player one day?

He arguably is already.

Forty goal contributions in one season, with 33 of those coming in the Premier League, is something only a top player can produce.

Of course, with it only being one campaign, some may feel that Palmer has to do it again before he can be viewed as a truly elite attacker.

But the quality the England international showed last season as he amassed all of those goal contributions and at the Euros tells you enough. Palmer is already an exceptional footballer. Now it is just about whether he can keep showing that.

If Palmer can, then Chelsea could end up going far.
