TalkSPORT host Jeff Stelling has made some very interesting comments about England and Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Cole Palmer did not start one game for England at Euro 2024, but he still managed to make a huge contribution during the competition.

It was the attacker who scored the Three Lions’ goal in their 2-1 loss to Spain in the final on Sunday.

He also assisted Ollie Watkins’ winner in the semi-finals versus the Netherlands.

It was a strike that gave him flashbacks, with Palmer remembering a similar goal that Watkins scored against Chelsea last season.

Jeff Stelling makes big Cole Palmer claim

England had a star-studded attack at this summer’s Euros, which is why Palmer found it difficult to find minutes.

Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka were the attackers who Gareth Southgate preferred over him.

Even so, Stelling thinks Palmer proved to be the best of the lot despite seeing so little game time in comparison.

In fact, Stelling has gone as far as to say that the 22-year-old was England’s best player of the tournament.

Speaking on talkSPORT (15/07/2024 at 07:58), he said: “I looked at who did themselves any good in terms of their reputation.

“Marc Guehi did, Kobbie Mainoo did, Jordan Pickford, I thought, particularly in the final was very good, but for me a player who would be our player of the tournament, he barely played, and that would be Cole Palmer.”

Should Chelsea’s Cole Palmer have been a starter for England at Euro 2024?

In the five games he played in Germany, Palmer managed to record two goal contributions.

Foden and Saka managed one combined, with the former failing to score or assist in the tournament.

Since arriving at Chelsea last summer, finding the back of the net and creating chances has been Palmer’s game.

Getting all of these attacking players into the same team is obviously not an easy task, but Southgate really had to find a way to get Palmer into the side.

He did not in the end, though, and has perhaps paid the price for it.
