- Six people have been found dead in a popular tourist spot in the Thai capital
Six people were found dead in a luxury hotel in the popular Ratchaprasong area of Bangkok this afternoon, Thai police have declared.
A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, dismissed earlier reports in Thai media that the six people had been killed in a shooting and said poisoning was the suspected cause of death.
‘There is no sign of a shooting,’ the official told Reuters, without elaborating further.
Five bodies were reportedly discovered inside a room at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, with the sixth lying by the door, at around 7:30pm local time.
Police Lieutenant General Thiti Saengsang, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with Major General Noppasin Poolsawat, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the dead were believed to be of Vietnamese origin.
Two of the victims are said to have had dual Vietnamese-American nationality.
