Legendary comedian and actor Bob Newhart has died at the age of 94, as confirmed by his publicist, Jerry Digney.

The Elf and Big Bang Theory star is said to have died after “a series of short illnesses,” as confirmed by his publicist.

Newhart was known for roles in the aforementioned movie Elf and series Big Bang Theory but began his career as a comedian in the late 1950s.

He became famous in the United States when one of his routines was captured on vinyl in 1960, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart.”

It was so successful that it won a Grammy Award as album of the year.

Newhart also went on to win best new artist of 1960 with the sequel “The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!” winning best comedy spoken word album.

Since his legendary stand-up story, Newhart has appeared in several movies and TV shows through his career.

Some of his roles being in projects such as Catch 22, Legally Blonde 2, Elf, and The Big Bang Theory, among others.

His shows nominated several times for an Emmy included Bob and George & Leo, which he jokingly slammed when losing.

“I guess they think I am not acting,” he said.

“That it’s just Bob being Bob,” he added.

Newhart was one of the longest veterans in the world of comedy, something he took great pride in when it came to his work.

He vowed back in 2003 that he would work as long as he was able to.

“It’s been so much, 43 year of my life,” he said.

“[To quit] would be like something was missing.”
