Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could raid his old club for Romelu Lukaku this summer.

If Victor Osimhen leaves Napoli, it looks likely that the striker will move to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. That is because Lukaku has already said yes to Napoli in a boost to Antonio Conte.

However, Lukaku is not the only player with Chelsea connections whom the Italian looks to be interested in.

Having enjoyed success with Lukaku at Inter Milan, though, you suspect that the 31-year-old is the footballer who Conte really wants this summer.

During their time together at Inter, Lukaku and Conte managed to win the Serie A title, claiming it back in the 2020/21 season.

Napoli set to make move for Billy Gilmour

Conte never got the chance to work with Lukaku at Chelsea, but the Napoli manager did get the opportunity to coach Billy Gilmour.

Gilmour has since left Stamford Bridge, joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, but it now looks like he could be leaving the Seagulls.

According to journalist Mike McGrath, Conte wants to sign Gilmour and Napoli are now set to make a move for him next week.

The end of Gilmour’s Chelsea career finished on quite a disappointing note for the 23-year-old. Gilmour got sent to the Chelsea reserves, giving him no choice but to leave west London.

Chelsea lost a quality midfielder in Billy Gilmour

Not everyone associated with Chelsea will be disappointed with Gilmour’s exit. With the likes of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez currently part of Enzo Maresca‘s squad, they have solid midfield options.

Nevertheless, the Scotland international is still a very good player who has plenty to offer.

“Gilmour is a very smart player,” his former manager at Brighton, Roberto De Zerbi, was quoted as saying by The Argus last year. “He has an incredible attitude, incredible behaviour.”

If Napoli do go on to sign Gilmour this summer, the Serie A outfit can be very happy with that purchase. Conte, the man pushing for him, most certainly will be.
