One player who Chelsea have been linked with looks like he could be on the move this summer following his manager’s recent comments.

Chelsea have been extremely active during this transfer window, but their business does not look finished yet.

The Blues have brought in quite a few players so far, including the likes of Renato Veiga and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, they are yet to sign a proven striker.

They have been linked with several centre-forwards, such as Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke and Brentford’s Ivan Toney, though Jason Cundy cannot see Chelsea signing Toney.

With Nicolas Jackson not having too much support last season, it is an area of the squad that the club probably need to strengthen.

Solanke is one striker who Chelsea could try to bring to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes as they look to sign an alternative to Jackson.

Chelsea have already considered buying Solanke, who has a £65m release clause in his contract. According to The Athletic, that clause can be activated by certain clubs this summer.

His manager, Andoni Iraola, spoke about his future recently, failing to guarantee that the 26-year-old will still be at Bournemouth after the transfer market shuts.

“Dom is happy,” Iraola was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “He has come back in very good shape, is training very well and the relationship he has with his team-mates is very good.

“But the market is open. You cannot say he is going to stay or that he is going to leave because we don’t know. In the end, it is something you cannot control.”

Dominic Solanke could leave Bournemouth

Solanke had such a good 2023/24 campaign, scoring 19 goals in 38 appearances in the Premier League.

It is no surprise, then, that the England international is being linked with a move away from Bournemouth. And with a release clause in his contract, it certainly is possible that he joins another club this summer.

However, £65m is a lot of money to spend on a centre-forward whose overall track record at the top level is not amazing. While Chelsea’s squad could do with another No.9 like Solanke, you would not blame the club’s owners for not wanting to splash the cash on him.

If Solanke remains at Bournemouth and has another solid season in the Premier League, though, then it becomes a different story in the 2025 summer transfer window.
