When all of his central defenders are fit, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is actually spoilt for choice.

The only problem is the above has not happened this season.

On paper, though, Mauricio Pochettino obviously does have a lot of centre-back options.

Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah can all play in central defence.

The Argentine may not have Silva for much longer, however. The Brazilian’s contract is up at the end of the season and a new one is yet to be discussed.

Scott Minto really likes Chelsea defender

Silva and Disasi have been Chelsea‘s main centre-back pairing this season, though the former was dropped recently before returning for the Sheffield United draw on Sunday.

The centre-half that former Chelsea player Scott Minto has been praising, though, is actually Chalobah.

Speaking about the 24-year-old and the Blues’ other centre-back options on talkSPORT, Minto said: “In terms of centre-backs, you’re absolutely right. They’re all good individual athletes and defenders, but they’re not really kind of leaders in the John Terry or even the Thiago Silva type.

“I mean, don’t forget there’s Wesley Fofana who’s been injured all season as well. He’s yet to come back, so you would think that they wouldn’t go out and spend another 50, 60, 70 million pounds when they’ve got so many centre-backs. And I actually think I like Trevoh Chalobah as well. I think he’s done well whenever he’s played in a Chelsea shirt.”

Chelsea should keep Trevoh Chalobah

At one point, it looked like Chalobah was definitely leaving Chelsea.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was almost certain that Chalobah would depart Stamford Bridge during the January window.

In the end, though, the former England youth international remained at Chelsea and is getting game time under Pochettino.

Chalobah started in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Sunday, for example. Since he has come back from injury, he has also played in more than one position, reminding everyone of his versatility.

Keeping their academy graduate around may not actually be the worst idea, especially with this squad’s fitness record. He could come in handy next season if he can stay injury-free himself.
