Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is one of the first-team stars missing from the squad that has travelled to the United States for this summer’s pre-season tour.

The Blues have confirmed they’ve flown to the United States with a 28-man group for their upcoming friendlies, starting with Wrexham this week.

Djordje Petrovic absent from pre-season with an injury

Chelsea’s touring squad for the United States includes four goalkeepers. Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli, Eddie Beach and Lucas Bergstrom are the quartet with the squad.

However, Djordje Petrovic, who finished last season as the first-choice Chelsea keeper, is absent from the trip.

According to journalist Nizaar Kinsella via X, Petrovic is missing for Chelsea because of a “minor injury”.

Petrovic impressed during his debut campaign with Chelsea last year, keeping seven clean sheets in 31 appearances.

Speaking via Chelsea’s website back in January, Mauricio Pochettino described Petrovic as “fantastic”.

However, the future of the Serbian gloveman is reportedly in doubt.

Djordje Petrovic transfer rumours

The Telegraph recently claimed that Petrovic’s future at Chelsea is in doubt. It is explained that the Blues do rate their 24-year-old highly, but Sanchez is currently in line to start the season as the number one at Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic didn’t do too much wrong last season during his first year in English football, but perhaps he’s not as strong with the ball that his feet as teammate Sanchez. That’s certainly an area of the game that Maresca stresses huge importance on.

Petrovic should count himself a bit unfortunate if he loses his Chelsea starting position this summer.
