Arsenal are interested in a move to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer, talkSPORT understands.
Since signing from Sheffield United in 2021, Aaron Ramsdale has been the Gunners’ number one choice in between the sticks.
He has so far kept 29 clean sheets for the club and was part of an Arsenal side that came close to Premier League glory last season.
It appears that Mikel Arteta and co. are keen to add another top quality goalkeeper to their ranks for the new campaign though.
Following previous interest in Raya from Tottenham, Brentford have been holding out for a fee of £40million.
This remains to be the case but Arsenal won’t pay such a fee for the Spaniard, who will provide Ramsdale with competition in goal.
Bayern Munich have also been in dialogue with Brentford, and Chelsea also retain an interest in him.
Speaking on his future, Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “David is a Brentford player so far and I haven’t been told anything different.
“It’s an open secret that we are willing to sell him for the right amount. He’s training hard and a good professional.
“Right now he’s at the club and then we will find the best to do. I think it’s natural that he would like to leave if it’s a good opportunity for him. We all think it’s a good idea at the right price.
“That probably means going towards that and focusing on the other keepers we have, I think that is completely natural.”
Raya has made 161 appearances for the Bees since his arrival in 2019, with clean sheets coming on 54 of those occasions.
Such efforts in goal helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League from the Championship just two years after he joined.
Like the rest of the Premier League, the Gunners are just two weeks away from commencing the new season.
Before then, they will play AS Monaco in the Emirates Cup on Wednesday before facing Manchester City in the Community Shield four days later.
A home clash against Nottingham Forest awaits them on the opening weekend as they eye another title charge.
