Chelsea are planning to offload defender Trevoh Chalobah before the transfer window closes.

Trevoh Chalobah was left out of the Chelsea squad that travelled to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour and now appears to be on the transfer list.

Chelsea have told Chalobah he can leave, with Enzo Maresca having plenty of other central defenders in his ranks.

The above includes new signing Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi. Maresca has even name-checked Josh Acheampong.

Adarabioyo, Fofana and Disasi, then, will be expected to compete for the right centre-back spot once the new season begins.

Darragh MacAnthony understands Chelsea’s decision to transfer list Trevoh Chalobah

Many Chelsea supporters will be upset to see how Chalobah is being treated. He is seen as one of their own after coming through the club’s academy.

Chalobah himself is disappointed with his situation at Chelsea, but Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony is refusing to attack the Blues’ owners.

If Chelsea do need to make some more money this summer, MacAnthony believes selling Chalobah or Conor Gallagher is the best way to go about it.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I didn’t love the [Mauricio] Pochettino decision, but I will defend them by saying they want what is best for the club.”

MacAnthony later went on to add: “If they need to make X amount this summer, then the best way of doing it is selling one of those academy graduates. Whether it’s Gallagher or Chalobah, it’s going to happen and I think you’ve just got to live with it.”

Chelsea have created Trevoh Chalobah problem

Chelsea may need the money but another reason why they are likely to be happy for Chalobah to go is because of the amount of options they have in central defence.

Having already had Chalobah at the club, though, you can argue that it was not necessary for them to bring Tosin Adarabioyo to Stamford Bridge, for example.

They could have easily turned down the chance to sign Adarabioyo, let Chalobah keep his spot and then look to make sales elsewhere.

It is what Chalobah would have wanted, but it looks like he will have to be the fall guy after Chelsea’s heavy spending and stockpiling. It is something that could have been avoided, but what’s done is done, with the former England U21 international now without a future at the club.
